[ARCHIVED] Powhatan Public Safety Department Receives Award

Public Safety Communications Department logo

Powhatan - Powhatan Public Safety Communications (PSC) Department received an award from Rapid SOS for being a Power User (constant high-volume user) of the enhanced 911 GIS location software portal for Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP). This free software provides detailed, reliable and location specific, 911 caller locations to our Communications Officers. Rapid SOS location data is an excellent tool for our dispatchers and location verification is critical in ensuring we are sending our Public Safety First Responders to the correct location without any delay. This data is only available or viewable when making a call to 911.

Rapid SOS notified Director Nolan that Powhatan PSC 911 Department was one of the top users of this application in the State of Virginia. Mr. Josh Robinson, Engagement Manager for Rapid SOS presented Powhatan 911 Director Tom Nolan and Operations Manager Kimberly Schmitt the Power User Award on July 5, 2023.

Powhatan 911 will be implementing a software upgrade later this summer. Director Nolan stated “Premium Rapid SOS offers several enhancements that primarily focus on using technology that our vehicles and phones can share with Public Safety First Responders. The first step in responding to any emergency is to quickly confirm the incident location and accurately process the information. In doing so we can save lives and reduce property damage.”

All cell phones have this application, and the user may choose to provide additional health alerts under the free RapidSOS Ready Emergency Health Profile at www.emergencyprofile.org.  The phone user must decide what personal data to enter and is responsible for updating.
