Powhatan County wants to make residents aware that the CodeRED emergency notification system is currently disabled due to a cybersecurity incident. CodeRED is the emergency notification system used in Powhatan and many other localities. This incident is isolated to the CodeRED platform, which is managed outside of Powhatan County, and there are no related impacts to Powhatan's operations.
As a precautionary measure, we recommend residents who signed up for CodeRED and who use their CodeRED password across multiple sites change those passwords promptly.
In the event of an emergency incident, Powhatan County will post updates to the County website (https://www.powhatanva.gov/) and primary social media pages. These pages can be accessed using the social media icons at the bottom of the County website.
