Convenience Center Operator

The County of Powhatan is currently recruiting for the part-time position of Convenience Center Operator. This position performs and assists in the daily collection of litter and recyclables from the County. Work involves maintaining the smooth flow of traffic through the center; collecting specified fees; providing necessary information to customers enforcing the County’s Waste Disposal Ordinance; maintaining a safe environment for the public; and assisting the handicapped or any other resident needing help unloading trash. Position is primarily weekend work but may require occasional week day work. Reports to the Convenience Center Supervisor.
Minimum Training and Experience – Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by 6 to 9 months of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver’s license and pass a state background check and pre-employment drug screening.
Minimum Qualifications: Be able to lift, carry, push or pull moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and occasional heavy objects (100 pounds or more). Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey information.
